Jim the CMH Gourmand was kind enough to create a wrap up of our last event and what some of the pieces are that we need to build on going forward.

The Social Media Cafe Gains Momentum!

We excited about the potential of the Social Media Café. The group is still growing and acquiring ideas while refining the purpose and defining the projects the group will pursue in the next year. Here are the cliff notes of what has happened to date. Anyone is invited to join us for the next meeting.

A review of meetings and posts to date shows these common themes:

<READ THE REST OF HIS POST HERE>

A part of the discussion is about mission and values. I think from my perspective I’ve talked about this in several places and on several occasions but I feel it is worth touching on again. When all else is said and done I believe that a mission statement which truly reflects the values of the organization not only gives the participants a solid footing and direction but draws in new participants and collaboration opportunities otherwise not realized.

With that being said here are the values that I hold dear for this organization.

1 – open and honest communications

2 – embracing of diversity

3 – inclusive of all voices

4 – constructive – not devisive

5 – outreach

My first crack at a more formal mission statement (using the current name, that’s also something under review):

Columbus Social Media Cafe strives to bring a diversity of voices into constructive dialogues about community building in an inclusive and open environment. We use technology to create virtual and physical meetings where these conversations may flourish. Our goal is to provide all individuals in Central Ohio with the ability to add their voice to these conversations.

I hope anyone reading this who has the ability to make it comes out to our next meetup and helps to grow this organization to meet our mission, whatever that ends up being.
